Dr. Pawar’s path in psychiatry began with medical training in India, followed by an MD in Psychiatry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He then completed additional postgraduate psychiatric clinical work at major academic institutions in India. These early experiences provided a broad foundation in adult psychiatry and an appreciation for how culture, family, medical health, and access to care shape each person’s presentation.

In the United States, Dr. Pawar completed general psychiatry residency at Drexel University College of Medicine. He subsequently pursued subspecialty fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Together, his training in India and the United States has given him experience across varied clinical settings, age groups, and approaches to psychiatric assessment and treatment.

Dr. Pawar is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is currently a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital, where his institutional work includes the Lurie Center for Autism. These professional appointments are separate from Pawar Psychiatry, his independent private practice.

Before returning to Massachusetts, Dr. Pawar served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins and practiced at Kennedy Krieger Institute. At Kennedy Krieger’s specialized autism center, his work involved nuanced psychiatric assessment for autistic children and young people and for those with related neurodevelopmental conditions. He evaluated complex developmental and behavioral presentations, considered medication within a broader care plan, and collaborated with clinicians in psychology, behavior therapy, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, speech-language services, social work, and other disciplines.

His Johns Hopkins experience also included inpatient and day-hospital child psychiatry. Working in higher-acuity settings strengthened his ability to organize complex clinical information, clarify overlapping diagnoses, and communicate practical treatment priorities with families and care teams. Pawar Psychiatry does not provide hospital-level or emergency services, but this background informs the careful assessment and planning he brings to outpatient consultation.

Across these roles, Dr. Pawar has remained interested in translating clinical evidence into decisions that are understandable and useful to families. He approaches medication as one component of care, considered alongside development, communication, learning, physical health, daily routines, school expectations, relationships, and the young person’s individual strengths and goals.
